About us

It is not an imported concept, but a lodge built and operated by people of this valley—pilots, builders, guides, and hosts who pour their effort and reverence into the place they call home.

The lodge was created and is operated by three friends whose paths converged through Alaska’s wild country: Ellie Gray, Korin Matter, and Zeke Markshousen. Having been integral parts of shaping and guiding Ultima Thule and other hospitality centric venues, they saw an opportunity to honor the legacy of the place while creating something new—an immersion lodge built not by corporate design but by people who live this life.

Every cabin raised, every trail walked, and every welcome extended carries the fingerprints of the people who live and work here.

Newly opened in 2026, LARRU is a sister property and offshoot of the legendary Ultima Thule Lodge.

LARRU lives at the crossroads of Alaska’s stark contrasts: community and remote wilderness, grand scales and intimate environments.

We believe that people need wild places to connect deeper with themselves and with their fellow man. The wild exposes you and helps give you a sense of aliveness and with that self assurance you live a fuller life. There are many ways to access wilderness, but this is a uniquely wild place that has a harsh side. We built this lodge to enhance the human experience within the grandeur of extreme wilderness.
